One feared killed in Ibusa political clash

VIOLENCE erupted at Ibusa in Oshimili North Local Council of Delta State as a youth was stabbed to   death over an argument.

The incident, which occurred at the Umuodafe neighbourhood right inside the house of a popular socialite (names withheld), led to the attack of the house by angry youths when news of the tragedy filtered out.

A witness said seven other youths were shot by the security details of the socialite’s wife. The affected youths are currently on danger list in different hospitals in Ibusa.

According to the source, a political meeting at the palatial home of the socialite ahead of the April polls had led to exchange of hot words between two youths who pushed and shoved each other.

Persistent pleadings by the fellow party members that the two party faithful should sheathe their swords fell on deaf ears. “It was during the subsequent fighting that the deceased, who was identified simply as Chizem was stabbed and died right on the spot,” he said.

The source further narrated that the socialite’s wife, who is running as an opposition candidate in the election, immediately called off the meeting and ordered for police reinforcement as a result of threats by the aggrieved youths to raze the house.

According to him, the police fired live ammunition in a desperate attempt to disperse the irate youths, which resulted in the injuries.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Charles Muka, confirmed the killing but refused to disclose the scene of the incident.

He said that a heated argument between the two youths resulted in the stabbing to death of one of them and that the culprit has since been apprehended while full investigations were still on.

He said: “I don’t want to be drawn into any talk of where the incident happened.  What I know is that it took place at Ibusa. One person was killed and the culprit has been arrested. It has nothing to do with politics.”
